Last week, we the OSIS organizers of my school, went to an orphanage in Klaten, Central Java. As a social project, this activity was held to celebrate our school anniversary. As many as 20 students and two teachers including the vice principal of student affairs went there by bus.
The bus was already stand-by at our school at 07.30 in the morning. After everything was packed and everyone was in the bus, we left the school at 8.00. The trip took about 45 minutes which was 15 minutes longer than usual since there were some constructions going on. I, as the OSIS chairperson, sent a text to the orphanage’s chairman that we would be late around 15 minutes. Fortunately, he texted me back said that they were still waiting for us. Finally, we arrived there at 9.15 a.m.
After getting off the bus, the vice principal gave a briefing to us about what we would do during this social project. I also did the final checking about the donations that we brought. After everything was clear, we were received in the office and had an opening ceremony there. Then, we handed our donation packages to the chairman’s room. After that, we visited the orphans in their rooms. There are four big buildings which consist of 10-15 rooms in each building. There are 163 orphans with many different backgrounds being cared. We also had a chance to play together with them for 45 minutes.
Having finished play together with them, we went back to our school and we were glad to share what we have with them. We hope that next year, the OSIS organizers will hold this social project again with the other orphanages so we always feel grateful and have sympathy to others who aren’t as lucky as us.
